Matthew's Path to Healing and Hope

Hi, I am the mom of Matthew, my amazing 12-year-old son who is on the autism spectrum and bravely battling serious mental health challenges. For years, we’ve fought alongside him—through therapy, hospitalizations, and countless ups and downs. Now, his care team has recommended residential treatment as the best and most hopeful next step.

After being turned away by multiple programs, we’ve finally found a place in Palm Beach, Florida that specializes in helping children like Matthew—kids with autism, behavioral needs, and co-occurring mental health struggles. This program is ready to welcome him for a 90-day stay, and most importantly, Matthew wants to go. He told us, “I know I need help.” As a mom, hearing that broke my heart—but also gave me hope.

This residential treatment program will provide Matthew with intensive therapy, 24/7 support, and a highly structured environment tailored to kids on the spectrum. It will help him develop emotional regulation skills, work through trauma and anxiety, improve communication and coping strategies, and build healthier behaviors so he can thrive at home, in school, and in life. This isn’t just care—it’s healing, growth, and the chance to rewrite his story.

Unfortunately, our insurance is only covering part of the cost, and we’re responsible for $10,280 out-of-pocket to get him the help he so deeply needs. On top of that, we’ll need to travel from North Carolina to Florida every other week to visit and stay connected with him throughout his journey.
