Matthew's Heart Transplant Journey

Hi everyone, my name is Robin.

My son Matthew was born with heart issues and he’s had multiple surgeries throughout his life. He recently started having trouble breathing due to heart failure. This has been making his heart work extra overtime, which leaves him with very low energy to do anything. They attempted different medications aside from his pacemaker, but none are helping, so a team of doctors have come to a conclusion. Today, January 21, 2022 he will be having another open-heart surgery. Only this time Matthew will be getting an artificial heart in place of his current one. My son’s amazing team of doctors will be placing him on the heart transplant list to get an adult sized heart.

His dad and I are being told that we’ll be let me go because all of the appointments and unexpected hospital visits and overnight stays. Matthew is a big brother and has three younger sisters who are waiting for him to be able to play with them again. I don’t ever really ask for help when, but I am in desperate need of anything given. Honestly, I’m not even sure how much to ask for. His dad and I are terrified that we’ll end up homeless because we won’t be able to pay our rent because we have to travel back and forth to the hospital and continue to make sure our other children have food and other essentials that are needed.

If you’re religious we ask that you please pray for our son throughout this entire process. He’ll be staying in the hospital for a few months, following his big surgery.
