Matthew Dumas is fighting for his life after a sudden infection. In the span of a few days, he went from a healthy father of three to undergoing multiple life saving surgeries and remains in critical care.
Several years ago, Matthew was sleeping next to his wife and baby when a drunk driver plowed through their bedroom wall. The vehicle landed on Matthew's back, pinning him until emergency workers were able to free him. Matthew was seriously injured and underwent surgery. The complications from this incident contributed to Matthew having a more difficult time with blood clots and fighting off infections.
Fast forward to July 2015. Matthew is 37 and the sole income for his family of five: his wife Michelle and three young children ages 13, 8, and 6.
Matthew had little warning about the severity of his condition. Within the span of a day he went from healthy to an emergency airlift to a larger hospital.
He was touch and go the first few days, and ultimately the double amputation of his legs was required to save his life.
Since losing both legs will add extra challenges to every day life, Matthew and his family face a long road ahead of them. The near term costs for co-pays, medication, travel to the hospital, and lost income, are also of immediate concern.
Matthew has tremendous support from family, friends, and co-workers. And through all of this, he still manages to make us laugh (and cry). Matthew is a fighter, and has already beaten some long odds to make it through this far.
Please help Matthew and his family get through this critical time and help lighten their road to recovery.
Matthew and Michelle would like to thank you for your support!
