Matthew's Journey to Recovery
On Saturday, April 20, 2019, Matthew, who is the son of Tony and Dori Burger, was in a 4 wheeler accident. As described by Matthew's mother : "Skull, top of spine & pelvic fractures. Horrible accident, possible best outcome. No brain swelling, has concussion & confused. Can’t give him pain meds because of concussion. ICU at UVA next 48 hours. He WAS wearing a helmet, probably saved his life.”
Matthew has been playing soccer since he was 4, goalie since he was 7. He loves it & volleyball! He had the potential of playing D1 Soccer in college. He knows his injuries are not at this time permanent, but being unable to play & knowing he’s done for this season is the hardest thing on him emotionally now.
As his mother wrote, "This will be a Day by Day marathon. Please keep praying for his doctors' wisdom, God's healing & that whatever happens he will be able to handle it & his ARMY of family, friends, neighbors & teammates will be able to love & support him."
This is a journey that will require time and continued prayers.
Thank you so much for donating to Matthew's Journey to Recovery.
