Matthew VanCamp medical fund

Matthew VanCamp is a military veteran, dedicated Michigan Senate employee, great friend, and loving fiancé. In 2014, two years after finishing a more than decade-long military career and being injured in the line of duty, Matthew noticed that normal, everyday activities were becoming increasingly difficult for him. Easy tasks, such as holding a cup or swallowing food, soon became hard to do. Walking became near impossible without the use of a cane, and he began requiring the assistance of his fiancée, Courtney, with getting out of bed each morning and requiring her help getting dressed daily.
Matthew has been through a long and frustrating medical journey, having undergone countless tests, trials, and procedures. His symptoms are consistent with many debilitating neurodegenerative disorders including multiple sclerosis, ALS, Huntington’s disease, and advanced Parkinson’s. However, his current diagnosis is still unknown.
After seeing many specialists in the Lansing and Grand Rapids areas, the next step in Matthew’s medical journey is the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where he will be seen by doctors specializing in the treatment of difficult cases. Matthew and Courtney will be flying to Minnesota on August 30th and will stay there for the next week while the Mayo Clinic’s team performs tests to determine the cause of Matthew’s symptoms.
However, the trip to Minnesota comes with many extra costs – while Matthew’s medical care is covered, his and Courtney’s flights, hotel rooms, and additional costs are not. With Matthew and Courtney’s wedding coming up in October, it will be a significant financial setback that no couple should have to worry about. They are both proud, hardworking individuals and would never ask for help, which is why, as their friends, we are doing it for them.
Please help us support Matthew and Courtney in their journey to find a cause and cure for Matthew’s illness. Any amount helps, whether big or small. If you would like to donate to Matthew’s heathcare costs directly, please email James Lenon through the contact link to coordinate how to do so.
