Helping Matthew Heal

Donation protected
In 1997, Matthew Sobkowski was diagnosed with a very rare disease known as Wilson’s disease, where copper builds up in your brain, liver and other vital organs.  Matthew has battled the effects of this disease for more than 20 years, and has fought the valiant fight.   He has worked for many years at a group home for the mentally disabled, never, ever allowing his disease to control his life.  Three years ago he met the love of his life, Jennifer, and the two planned a wonderful future together.

In the beginning of November, Matthew became quite ill.  Tests revealed his liver was shutting down from the disease, and a transplant needed to be done very soon.   On November 18th, a liver became available and the transplant team at Hershey Medical Center performed the surgery.  The transplant was a success, but now the healing must begin.

The minimum time Matthew will be away from work will be three months, more likely six months.  The costs for medications alone will be staggering.   We want to make sure that Matthew can come home to mend, without the worry of day to day living expenses and medical costs.

Matthew has given so much of himself to others in the past, as evidenced by his chosen career, so now we are asking for others to help Matthew during this very difficult time.

“The greatest gifts are not boxes filled with things, but beautiful presents that hold so much more:  love, kindness, selflessness and gratitude.  They all make up the beautiful gift of life.  A Miraculous Gift.”
