Matthew Sensing’s Recovery Fund

For those who do not know me, my name is Elizabeth and I am raising money for my one of my great friends Matthew Sensing. Matthew and I worked together at Grady EMS for just over a year while I was a new paramedic to the Atlanta 911 system and he was a very seasoned AEMT who was finishing Paramedic school and in the process of getting his paramedic numbers. I can’t express how much I owe him to have given me the confidence to be the medic, and person, I am today. Matthew is currently a paramedic for AMR Dekalb Operations and has his wife and four children at home between the ages of 6 - 14 years of age.

 

Last night, 12/30/21, I received a message from his wife stating something had happened to Matthew and immediately I was out of the house contacting his current work partner to meet me at the hospital. After speaking to his wife, she stated that they were relaxing before he suddenly went unresponsive. Her details made me think it was a stroke, but it couldn’t be seeing as Matthew is a healthy 35 year old male. Matthew was taken to the local hospital where we eventually learned that he was actively having a stroke; a complete occlusion to the basilar artery, one of the rarest but most catastrophic. The initial facility prepared for transport and initiated tPA, and was taken to a comprehensive stroke center where he was able to have a successful thrombectomy. As of right now, Matthew is not out the woods yet and has a long recovery ahead.

 

I have created this fund, with family’s consent, for recovery measures and for his family. Matthew is the sole provider for his family and has four young children.
