We are starting this GoFundMe in an effort to help my nephew Matthew while he battles cancer. Matthew is a 41 year old father of three kids, aged 2, 4, and 14. He has been a special education teacher for middle school students for the over 12 years.

In July, Matthew found a lump in his chest and underwent a multitude of tests and procedures which subsequently led to a cancer diagnosis. Matthew has a rare sarcoma that has metastasized to his leg, shoulder, and chest. In the next week, Matt will begin his treatment starting with months of chemotherapy, followed by radiation, and then surgery. This unexpected diagnosis has the doctors projecting that he will be out of work for at least a year while he's being treated.

Matthew loves his family, his students, being a teacher, and his school community. Although he has some sick leave support through his district, he will have to take medical leave once his benefits run out.
