Matthew Lindquist Kicking Cancer's Butt
Donation protected
Andy's brother Matthew, on the left in the cover photo, is in need from our collective family and friends. Andy and I are praying and hoping for a miracle right now. Matthew has cancer. We want Matthew to focus on his healing and not worry about his increasing medical bills and the surgery.
In summary, a few weeks ago, Matthew had a sample taken from a tumor. It was skin cancer. He had a surgery to have a deeper amount of tissue removed. They took a lot, but now the surgeon is saying they need to remove even more so he has another surgery on Tuesday. They also believe they need to remove his lymph nodes in the area.
His story....
As everyone who has experienced cancer knows, this is a scary time because of the unknown and the daunting medical bills. Matthew is a carpenter in Minnesota and has been unemployed for five months now and has no insurance coverage. This is the main reason he avoided going to the doctor when he wasn't feeling well, as well as trying to avoid clinics during the pandemic. When he did go in about a month ago, the physician found what he thought was a tumor. Matthew had an MRI cat scans, blood work and biopsy. In the follow up appointment, the doctor told Matthew it was not cancer but wanted to bring the findings to a consortium and a surgeon because of the strange location and look of the tumor. The surgeon consequently ordered surgery immediately.
A week before his surgery, Matthew went for a ride around the lake near his home and was in a minor motorcycle accident while trying to avoid a bicyclist who entered the road - it resulted in a severe injury to his heel - causing him to lose so much tissue and the sole of his heel. Doctors noted that without the help of the individuals on site, he could easily have bleed to death. Matthew was fitted with a boot and his pain level was extremely high, as you can imagine. He had to go in for his pre-op physical a couple days later and asked about postponing the surgery due to this injury and pain. However, the surgeon said the last test results were reviewed again and it definitely was cancerous (totally contradicting what he originally had been told). The surgery had to happen. As I mentioned, he had a large amount removed during the surgery.
Matthew was home after his surgery with a boot and now a catheter and drainage bag. Matthew has three amazing grown children but that means he lives alone, his recovery has been difficult. Andy very badly wanted to go back to Minnesota to help, but it is not possible right now. We talk to Matthew almost every day and we all were hoping that his recovery would go smoothly and he could move forward. However, he was then notified that they did not get all the cancer and he has a surgery on Tuesday to remove more tissue, possibly a debilitating amount, as well as the lymph nodes.
So, here's where we need you all. Please donate if you can, please - the money will go to pay his medical bills so he can focus on that healing. Pray for Matthew's healing and strength. Share this fundraiser - share everywhere you can. Matthew is Andy's dearest friend and his younger brother. I've seen a miracle before with these medical fundraisers and I am praying we can do this together again.
