Matt & Jenny - whom we all love and adore - were recently made aware their youngest son, Matthew who is 13 years old, has a very long battle ahead of him.
Last week Matthew had symptoms of COVID-19. Matt and Jenny took him in to be tested. The test came back negative. The doctors performed a chest x-ray at this time because of his cough and found that his heart was enlarged, he was immediately sent to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for more tests.
The doctors said his heart was not working very well and he had a blood clot in his heart. Matthew was stabilized and the doctors wanted to get him the best care possible. Matthew was life lighted to Stanford’s - Lucille Packards Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, CA.
Matthew has gone through extensive assessments and testing over a relatively short period of time.
Matthew is currently on a heart and lung machine to let his heart rest. They continue to perform tests including a biopsy of his heart to rule out a viral infection of the heart. And a CT scan which was clear (there was no blood clot in his heart). At this time Matthew is a waiting surgery for a VAD machine (Ventricular Assist Device) that will assist his heart function while he awaits a donor transplant heart which could be 3 to 9 months wait.
Health insurance will cover some of the expenses, but this will be a long journey that will affect our friends on so many levels. Matthew needs to be within 4 hours of Standford’s Lucille Packards Children’s Hospital until his transplant. Then once he has the transplant he will be there for an additional 3 months to recover.
We are asking for your help to raise money for them to alleviate some of the financial burden from their shoulders so they can focus on getting Matthew healthy.
Anything you are willing to donate will be graciously accepted. We fully understand the current economic climate has affected many, so if you are not in a position to donate, all we ask is you repost or forward this on.
This ask, is not one we take lightly, Matthew is extremely important and close to our hearts so we respectfully request any and all assistance to help them with this battle.
Let's show them our love and support is unconditional. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
