Matthew Haro's Wishes

As we all know, the loss of a loved one is never easy, especially when it’s so sudden. For the past 6 months, Matthew, was battling Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. By early Feb 2017, he was declared a survivor by UC Irvine and on the road to recovery. The medical plan was to get him to start eating by mouth again and eventually into rehab. Matthew was strong and fought hard with the unconditional support and love of his family…his return back home to be with the family was highly anticipated. God had a different plan for Matthew & it was the most painful and heartbreaking change of plans a family can receive. As we continue with our lives here on earth, I know my brother is still with us, and continues to guide us as he always did. In the early stages of his disease, Matthew expressed his concerns about death, to my mom. My mother was not prepared to have that conversation with him because she had faith he would sure recover. Matthew was proud of his Native American roots and expressed, at that time, that when he passes, he would like to be cremated and buried at our family’s cemetery on our reservation up north. Even though, a part of the family would like for Matthew to be buried here with us, we will grant and respect Matthew’s wishes. We ask in the most humble of ways for a contribution for funeral expenses and financial relief these circumstances brings the family. Any amount helps and if you cannot contribute your continued prayers for my brother and the family are much appreciated. God bless!
