Matthew Gressel was fighting a courageous battle with Glioblastoma brain tumor. He had endured surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and was in the process of a different treatment at Shands in Gainesville when he came down with pneumonia. Due to his state of immunosuppression the pneumonia accelerated rapidly and he sadly lost his battle on February 5th, 2020.
He was diagnosed in May, 2019 and since that time there have been many medical expenses, travel expenses for treatment and lost income since it became necessary for him to leave his employment due to the progression of the tumor. In addition to this, the life insurance policy with the State of Florida that they thought was in place, has been declined.
His wife, Helen Lenaerts has also lost income while staying at his side and caring for him during this battle. The family's financial situation is strained at this time, so any contributions are appreciated.
Matt was a gentle soul and loved by many. This photograph shows Matt with his wife Helen, during a happy time in his life before there was any indication of the struggles yet to come.
