This is a fundraiser on behalf of the Garcia family.
Matthew Garcia has lived a full and vibrant life in his 13 years. He has a true entrepreneurial spirit, starting Matt’s Scraps, where he creates welded art pieces and sells them at the Farmers Market. He’s also spent years making cotton candy creations with his twin brother Andrew and selling lemonade alongside his sister Emily at her shop, Francy Emilade. Matthew is a creative, driven, and kind-hearted young boy who brings joy to those around him.
On April 27, tragedy struck the Garcia family when Matthew was severely injured in a house fire inside the bathroom of their home. He sustained burns to 18–20% of his body, including his arms, chest, stomach, face, and hands. While we are grateful the burns are second-degree and not third-degree, he is facing a long and painful road to recovery. Matthew was airlifted at 2:45 a.m. to the UMC Lubbock Burn Center along with his father, Ruben. His mom, Amy, sister Emily, and twin brother Andrew remain in Las Cruces, supporting him from afar.
Matthew is expected to be hospitalized for several weeks and will miss the remainder of his 7th-grade year as he heals. The family is now navigating not only the emotional weight of this tragedy but also the financial strain of medical care and ongoing travel to and from Lubbock.
Any support you can offer would mean so much to the Garcia family during this incredibly difficult time. All contributions will go directly to helping cover medical expenses and travel costs.
Most importantly, the family asks for your prayers—for Matthew’s strength through the pain, for protection against infection, and for wisdom and healing as doctors determine whether skin graft surgeries will be necessary.
Thank you for keeping Matthew and the Garcia family in your thoughts and prayers. Your kindness and support truly make a difference.
