Matthew Boyd's Battle with Cancer

Matthew Boyd is a 14 year old 8th grader from Townsend, MA who recently went to the doctor to have a lingering cough checked out. An initial examination uncovered nothing of concern but a precautional chest x-ray uncovered a terrible hidden evil, which was later confirmed to be Intermediate Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that has infiltrated his lungs, heart, and diaphragm.
Matt went from snowboarding and having fun with friends to undergoing major surgery and braving his first of multiple rounds of chemotherapy, all in less than a week. Right now they are overwhelmed with the mental and physical stress of this sudden, horrifying news and the immediate actions being taken, but it is only a matter of time until the financial stress weighs down on them as well.
We, his family and friends, are looking to raise funds to help cover the excessive cost of giving the best cancer treatment possible. The costs that go beyond what insurance will cover and the added expenses that coincide (co-pays, transportation, overnight stays, etc.). To continue to provide care for Matthew, it is also likely that Matt's mother Tracy will have to take unpaid leave from her job once her vacation and sick time are exhausted.
We want to show Matthew that he is not alone! We want to show his family that they are not alone! Matthew is a compassionate boy who loves and cares so much for family, friends, and his dogs. He is in the 8th grade and is 14 years of age. He has a great sense of humor and always makes people laugh. He has a huge heart. He is a great student and loves learning. Matthew is an active athlete playing baseball and dek hockey, and also enjoys hiking, camping, bike riding, snowboarding, fixing things with dad, and playing video games.
He has a bright future ahead of him once he has beaten this evil, but he cannot do it without all of us.
