Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,
My name is Melanie and my family and I are raising funds for my 19-year-old cousin, Mattéo, and his parents.
A few days ago in Switzerland, Mattéo was in a terrible motorcycle accident and had to be airlifted to Geneva hospital, where surgeons fought through the entire night to save him. They did the best they could, but can’t say if he will walk again one day. Additionally he suffers multiple fractures, lesions, and contusions across his entire body. His journey is only beginning: he now faces many months —maybe 9, 12 or even longer— in neurosurgical and specialized rehabilitation centers to hopefully regain the use of his legs.
These funds will go directly towards helping rebuild his life: covering expenses not covered by insurance, from medical bills to, most importantly, supporting his parents so they can stay by his side throughout this long and uncertain journey. Since the rehabilitation center is ~4 hours from their home, this will require renting accommodations, travel, and more painfully stepping away from work —both parents’ jobs can’t be done remotely.
Every Swiss franc raised means his parents can stay near him without the constant worry of costs, focus their energy on his healing cell by cell, and ensure access to therapies, equipment, and support he may need beyond what insurance provides. It also brings together a community of people who care deeply to give a 19 year old athlete the hope for a new future. Knowing that friends, relatives, and even kind-hearted people he has not yet met are standing behind him will lift Mattéo’s spirits and strengthen his motivation in the hardest moments of rehabilitation.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support and contributions, we greatly appreciate it.
For Mattéo, my beloved cousin
