I am a Graduate Student at the University of Florida, studying a Masters of Music in Voice. I have been offered the role of Count in "The Marriage of Figaro" by W.A. Mozart. This is my chance to study the German theater system under the direction of repetiteurs, coaches, and directors from around the world in the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar (LOSW). I would also have the opportunity to sing for agents of the German opera companies. I need your help to get there! What I am asking for will cover the tuition of the program and a portion of my plane ticket. The the remaining tab and travel expenses I will work my hardest for over the summer.
Think about it this way: if 300 people pledged $10, I'd meet my goal! This proves that no contribution is too small, and no amount of people is too many. I assure you, all donations will be accepted. Scroll to the bottom for donor level rewards!
If I am to recieve donations, and thank you if you decide to patronize me (donors, feh! you're patrons), I will pledge to support other singers on their way to programs such as this one. One good turn deserves another! I also pledge to make my future recitals public on YouTube for you to watch my progress, as I have started in my undergraduate studies. I have plans for my second academic year that I'd love for you to see from near and afar via the magic of YouTube!
-If you pledge $25 or $50 dollars, I'll record a song or two for you (within reason, I'm a Baritone, not Julie Andrews!) and share it to you however we arrange on an individual basis, such as email a mp3, mail a CD, or post a video on YouTube for you to access.
-I'll have a benefit recital after I return to the states if $75 or $100 dollar pledges are made, in which I can share the Count's aria, songs I've studied in my first year at UF, and share my stories of what your patronage has helped me learn! And no worries, friends in the North and in the South, I will arrange for a performance in BOTH Wisconsin and Florida at different times of the year, and to have these performances recorded for those that cannot attend either performance.
The Lyric Opera Studio Weimar is an educational opportunity perfect for a young singer. I will perform at least one show as the Count, and would sing in the chorus in remaining shows. In addition to studying for the production, I would be given lessons in German speech, stage movement, acting, and singing. All of these are valuable lessons for my future development as a singer. This program puts me in the town of Weimar in east central Germany from early August to the beginning of September. In that time period, I will have studied under professional directors, repetiteurs, and coaches, performed at least one night as a leading role, and spent many more nights singing in the chorus of a professional production. I might also have sung for professional agents for an opportunity to be noticed for German operas. All in all, this program has opportunities for me that make it worth what I am asking for.
I have always wanted to sing in a fully staged and costumed production of an opera, and especially, a Mozart opera. I have studied German for a year while in my undergraduate studies at Saint Norbert College. I hope to live and study and work in Germany. I am fortunate enough to have a friend in Germany, so thankfully, I know at least one citizen. I cannot think of a better way for me to get an introduction into German opera, life, and culture than through studying my craft in Germany. With your help, I can achieve my goal of singing opera internationally.
Thank you for reading, and any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated by me!
