Matt Thurston’s Recovery
Donation protected
For the Thurston family, racing has been an integral part of life. Most recently, Matt and Shawn Thurston have continued the legacy of the 238 boat, racing frequently in Bakersfield, California. After years in the driver seat, Shawn passed the mantle to his older brother. Over the past 5 years, Matt has been racing at the top of his class with his family in full support. On November 5th, Matt was involved in an accident on the water, causing him to be ejected from the boat. In the blink of an eye, the course of his life was forever altered. With the help of family, friends, paramedics and an incredible team of first responders who performed life saving measures, we are thankful to say that Matt is still with us today. Shortly after the incident, he was rushed to Chandler Regional Medical Center where he was cared for by an amazing emergency and trauma team.
Upon arrival to the emergency room, Matt was in critical condition. He was found to have a cranial fracture, broken nose, and an epidural bleed. At this time, his condition is stable and remains in the ICU for close observation, while his wife, Lori, sits by him every step of the way. For the upcoming days, Matt will undergo a CT scan of his head each morning to monitor the bleed. It cannot yet be determined when Matt will be discharged home, however he is making improvements within each hour.
The road to recovery will be long and challenging for Matt and his family. As a business owner in Carson City, Nevada, there truly is no time to rest. Friends and family will aid in the flow of Kryptonite Marine, however Matt’s role is truly one of a kind. We ask now that Matt and Lori are not faced with the financial hardship that comes with this emergency. From the entire Thurston family, we would like to send our greatest appreciation to the NJBA rescue team, medical staff at Chandler Regional Medical Center, and all friends and family who stepped in to help when it was needed most.
