Make Matt’s Leg Great Again!
Donation protected
On April 28, 2018 Matt Talbot's life was changed forever.
After finishing his night shift at Texas Technical Ceramics he was headed home and struck by a car going at least 60mph. Matt was then thrown approximately 40 yards (or more) and his motorcycle was unrecognizable. Shockingly, Matt was conscious the entire time. As he began to examine himself he quickly realized his right foot was no longer attached.
When paramedics arrived they quickly realized Matt was in danger of losing his life due to the severity of his injuries and the amount of blood loss. As Matt was laying in the back of the ambulance headed to the hospital he couldn't even remember his name. All he could say was "please just save my leg".
At this point police began to mark the scene as a fatality. They outlined where his body, motorcycle, and severed right foot laid in the road. There were parts from his motorcycle over 100 yards away.
We finally get the call that nobody wants at 1am. Conroe Regional Hospital informed us that Matt was admitted there and headed for emergency surgery in efforts to save his life. After surgery the doctor came out and gave us the news. He was unable to save Matt's right leg which resulted in the amputation of it from his shin down. Matt also has a broken right arm, right tibia, and two fractured vertebrae. The doctor told us it was a miracle Matt is even alive, that most people with his type of injuries bleed out before even making it to the hospital. The doctor transferred Matt to ICU and we wouldn't see him till the next morning.
Upon arrival the next morning to finally see Matt we learned that he ended up going back in for a second emergency surgery which resulted in more of his right leg being removed. The nurses informed us he is starting to have a lot of complications and having a hard time getting the bleeding to stop in his leg.
This could not have happened at a worse time for Matt. He lives by himself in an apartment that is on the 3rd floor. He works very hard and was saving up to purchase a truck, as the motorcycle was his only means of transportation. Matt has no medical insurance and will now be out of work for months. The doctors are anticipating him possibly being in the hospital for another 14 days and when he gets out he will literally have nothing.
Matt has a long road to recovery at this point. His medical bills alone will be well over $300,000 and he will still have to purchase a prosthetic leg on top of that. Matt is not the type of person to ask for help or money. He will probably be really mad we started this for him, but we love and care about Matt, and want to do everything we can for him as he has nobody else.
We are asking for anyone that can help contribute to our cause of getting Matt a prosthetic leg which will help him get back to a more normal lifestyle. We know he will be forever grateful to have the ability to get back to work so he can take care of himself. We have no idea how much one will cost him at this time. Any money raised here will be used to first purchase his leg and any left over will be used to help pay medical bills and living expenses.
Even if you can not donate, you can still contribute by sharing this with as many people as you can! We will provide updates on Matt as soon as they are available.
Sincerely,
Chad and Ashley Lassinger
