Matt's larger than life personality has traveled a little under 1,700 miles from Quincy to the beautiful island of St. John and has made himself a staple of the community.
Hurricane Irma completely destroyed the island and also took away all of Matt's personal belongings, leaving him with only a few articles of clothing. As if a category 5 hurricane wasn't enough, several tornadoes smashed the island as well. What it did not take away, was his love for people, love of life and it definitely didn't take away his sense of humor.
Never one to think of himself, we found out he was helping with the relief efforts to restore some form of normalcy as the attached photo surfaced with little communication.
He has since posted pictures and videos of the majestic island. Finding humor in every situation, one of the videos he posted showed a boat sitting against a neighbor's wall which was about 100 yards away from the ocean where it normally floats. He panned the camera from the boat, to the water, back to the boat and then the water again.
Once again, neither Matt nor his family asked for this page to be set up. I know that he has touched our lives for the better and believe that he would do anything and everything to help anyone of us if we were faced with the same situation. This fundraiser is solely for Matt and for us to put him on our shoulders for once.
