With great sadness, our brother, son, father and friend, Matt Kurtz suddenly passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on 17 July 2021. In an effort to bring Matt to rest, in lieu of flowers, Matt's family is asking for donations to help us with his funeral arrangements, burial costs and outstanding bills left behind after his untimely death.
Matt is survived by his two amazing children, Gavin (18) - and Madelyn (10), his ex wife Amy, his mother, Kathy, his sisters: Beth, Jamie & Kerrie, and his brother Joe and Joe's family: Sharise, Alanah & Shareef, all of whom appreciate the love and support of family and friends who knew Matt, and others who did not, and are considering helping the family to honor his memory. Matt was really proud of Gavin's recent Brophy Catholic High School graduation and acceptance as a freshman at Arizona State University, as well as Madelyn's continued attendance at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Grade School in Arizona.
How do you sum up a life gone too soon at 45? Matt always loved Wisconsin and would come back to visit family and friends when he could. He was most recently there with his whole family (children & ex-wife) in January 2020 to celebrate his mom's 75th surprise birthday party. Matt is originally from Milwaukee, and moved to Arizona 18 years ago, with then wife Amy and young son Gavin. Matt was a long serving President of the St. Thomas Aquinas Wildcat Dad's Club in Goodyear, Arizona where both of his kids attended Catholic grade school. Matt is an alumnus of Mother of Good Counsel grade school, Marquettee University High School, and Milwaukee Area Technical College, all located in Wisconsin. He eventually became a Master Technician/Mechanic, was the manager at Leksfixit in Arizona, and began the nascent stages of being an entrepreneur.
Matt loved many things like hunting, camping, the outdoors, hiking, riding bikes, and of course his love of grilling, but most of all he loved his family. Matt lived a life of full of integrity and was the kind of guy who would do anything for you and help anyone in need. There are legendary stories of Matt calling various auto mechanic shops all over the country to advocate for both his family and even customers when he felt they were being taken advantage of by another shop. Matt loved to laugh and had a sheepish grin that could bring a smile to your face. Matt is dearly missed by all who knew him, particularly those who loved him. We are all still processing his death and appreciate your support and privacy at this time of great grief.
If you are looking for a way to help the family, please consider a donation to either or both of the separate Go Fund Me accounts created by the family (1- Family Funeral Costs; 2-Education/Medical/Family needs for Gavin, Madelyn & Amy) to account for the immediate and future needs of the family as they all work through this tragedy. No amount is too small to assist either Go Fund Me account, and we are eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity. Of note, once all the funeral costs are paid from this Go Fund Me, any extra funds will be created in a trust for the future needs of Gavin & Madelyn. We cannot say thank you enough for the outpouring of love and support at this time of great sorrow, as we grieve the lost of a life gone too soon. Matt maybe gone, but he will never be forgotten, and will live on in our hearts, our memories and in his children. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering a donation.
