In March 2021, Matt was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, a formidable brain cancer.

Matt underwent surgery, chemo, and radiation with excellent results. He was also accepted into a remarkable clinical trial at Duke University, which has some of the best trials for Glioblastoma.

For almost two years, Matt remained cancer-free. However, recent MRI scans revealed regrowth at the original tumor site, prompting us to seek another clinical trial.

Together with Matt's family, oncologist, and the team at Duke, we chose a new Phase 1 clinical trial at Duke.

While this trial has had good results, it also carried risks. Matt had a personal friend that had passed while undergoing this treatment.

A few weeks ago, Matt and his family traveled to Duke so Matt could undergo the treatment. His doctor inserted a temporary stint into Matt's brain and administered a modified bacteria for 72 hours, followed by a second drug for 7 hours.

The first indications are positive, but we won't know the full results until Matt has another scan in a few months. He did, however, experience some incredibly painful seizures.

As painful as they are, the seizures are a positive sign, indicating that the modified bacteria drip heightened his immune response. The doctors are hopeful this heightened immune response will cause his body to attack the cancer more aggressively.

Matt has since returned home and will continue visiting Duke every three weeks for scans, blood tests, and additional treatment to boost his immune system. These treatments will continue as long as they are effective.

During the procedure, the neurosurgeon secured extra biopsies for a promising therapy in Germany as a backup plan in case Matt's cancer does not respond to the ongoing treatment at Duke. Besides the clinical trials at Duke, this is the best treatment for Glioblastoma in the world.

Beyond the emotional and physical pain, both treatments are extremely expensive.

The treatment at Duke requires Matt to fly to North Carolina and stay in a hotel for two days every three weeks. If Matt has to resort to the backup plan in Germany, that treatment will cost over $80,000.

The goal of this GoFundMe is to raise money to cover Matt's travel to Duke every three weeks and to raise the necessary money for his treatment in Germany if required.

Matt's headaches are manageable, and he's gradually regaining motor skills and balance. He remains optimistic about the current trial and hopeful that the backup plan won't be necessary.

We deeply appreciate your financial support and heartfelt prayers!
