Matt Harrison's Living Expenses Through Surgery and Healing

Donation protected
Hi! Matt Harrison and I met way back in junior high school. Matt is one of the kindest men you'd ever meet. He helps others and now he needs our help.

On October 23, 2023, Matt had a toe amputated. He got food poisoning and didn't notice a tiny cut that ended up getting infected with a staph infection and MRSA. The infection got into the bone and he went septic. He spent 8 weeks in the hospital and then 2 months at home before being cleared to go back to work. Prior to this, he had no debt, but acquired and maxed out multiple credit cards to help pay bills during those 4 months. Matt's parents are retired . They helped him financially the best they could, but they were unable to help financially with other medical problems that were to come. The toe amputation triggered the diabetic condition Charcot Foot, which got into his ankle. Over the past year, his ankle has deteriorated to the point of disintegration in May 2025. The only options left are differing degrees of amputation.

Matt has spent the past four years as a substitute teacher and courier driver. As the foot worsened, he had to stop the courier work last fall.

Matt has also been working on a Master's in Teaching degree in order to qualify for his teacher certificate. All that remains for him to attain this degree is student teaching, which he is supposed to do this fall (if the foot heals enough to allow it by then). This means that even when he goes back, it will be an unpaid teaching internship; however, he will be a certified teacher afterwards. He knows there are brighter days ahead, but he needs help getting through all the storms.

Matt's original plan before the foot situation was to keep the courier job and save as much as he could before student teaching. With his teaching certificate, the sub pay he would get would increase by $75 a day (if he is unable to get a teaching contract). Instead, he will have no money coming in and his last paycheck will be spent before July 1st. Matt went through his foot amputation on June 11, 2025. He was able to keep his ankle and heel. The rest of his right foot had to be removed.

Please consider helping Matt with expenses such as food, rent, utilities, etc. as he has a long road ahead and has already accumulated a significant amount of debt with the last surgery. No amount is too small and it is all very much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
