Hey friends,
I have been able to talk to Matt and his family recently, and came to realize how serious their situation is. So, I wanted to get this started to help them out.
Most of you know, but may not have realized, how great the struggle is with Matt's health right now, and how desperate the need is for any assistance we can give. He and his family have already exhausted all their resources. Matt is doing his best to stay positive. He has his good days and his bad, but this could very well be his last Christmas. The situation is that bad. If his immune system (T-cells /HIV) doesn't improve soon, he will have very little chance of fighting any infections and dealing with his lung/heart disease. Fluid keeps building up in his lungs and around his heart. The next hospital visit Matt has due to any complications may be his last. His body is just too weak to fight off anything else right now. We are hoping and praying that he can turn a corner, so we can have more time with him.
Most days are a challenge right now. Matt is on permanent oxygen and is unable to work. He is getting help with applying for SS disability, but we all know that is difficult and can take 6-9 months or more. They just need some relief for the time being. Also, Matt's family needs to move him closer to them so they can be there for him when needed. Right now it's 35 miles each way. Some days it is difficult for him to be on his own and there will come a time where he needs continuous care.
Matt has health insurance, but deductibles and co-payments continue to add up along with travel expenses back and forth for hospital/doctor visits.
Although Matt has been dealing with lung issues for some time, the lung and heart disease were not previously diagnosed due to lack of proper testing. Needless to say it has been overwhelming for his family to have all of this dumped in their laps right now. They are just trying to get their feet back on the ground so they can fight this for as long as they can. So, I'm hoping we can all help them right now while they get things figured out and settled.
Let's all come together in the spirit of the holiday season to help out Matt and his family.
