Thank you all so very much for your incredible generosity. We are closing this active campaign, grateful for your generosity and happy that we will be making a sizable donation to the Scleroderma Research Foundation (www.srfcure.org) and the Scleroderma Foundation ( www.scleroderma.org). We know you will remember Matthew and hopefully continue to find ways to support work towards treatment and cure of scleroderma. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sharon

~~~~~
Dear All,
Your generosity on Matthew’s behalf is overwhelming. I cannot thank you enough! Much of your outpouring will go to support research aimed at better treatments (and hope for a cure someday) for scleroderma: The Scleroderma Research Foundation (www.srfcure.org) and the Scleroderma Foundation (www.scleroderma.org). I hope you will remember them in your giving plans over the years to come. Again, thank you so much for your demonstration of love for Matthew. We are deeply touched.
Much love,
Sharon (Matt’s mom)
In 2010, Matt was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease that affects less than 200,000 Americans each year. This diagnosis came as a huge shock to Matt and his family. Matt’s systemic scleroderma primarily affected his lungs, resulting in him living every day with only 50% of his lung capacity functioning.
 On January 1, 2017, Matt developed pneumonia and was rushed to the ER. He spent 16 days in the hospital, fighting his sickness as best he could with his family and friends camped in the hospital waiting room so he was never alone. On Monday, January 16th, his heart and lungs could fight no longer, and he passed away.
 Your donations will allow Matt's family to fly him back to Seattle, WA, where he will be buried close to home, friends and family. Estimated costs to fly his body back to his hometown will be $12,000, and additional funeral costs will incur as well. Any extra donations collected beyond the family’s incurred costs will be donated to the Scleroderma Foundation in their search for the cure. This has been an especially difficult time for Matt’s family, and any amount of donations will be appreciated.
 Matt loved his friends, family, and colleagues dearly, and never complained, despite the daily struggles of his condition. He was loved by everyone he came into contact with. His personality and sense of humor made him a joy to be around; he was truly one of a kind.
Thank you for your generosity!
