Matt Carter’s Battle Against Cancer. “No Plan B”
Donation protected
UPDATE
Thanks, everyone, for your generous donations! Matt feels the love and support through this site, and you all have truly been a blessing.
When I first organized this, Matt had just been sent home from the hospital and put on hospice. Within a week of being home, he began to feel better. He decided that he was not ready for hospice and took the initiative to make an appointment with his oncologist, which automatically revoked hospice care. From there, he underwent another treatment, which subsequently made him very ill. Since then, he has had good days and bad days of either feeling great and energetic or sick and in pain. No matter the day, Matt maintains a positive attitude and consistently says he is ready to fight this with everything he has and “will be that anomaly. There is no Plan B.” As I write this, he is in the hospital because of pain that couldn’t be managed at home.
Your donations will be used to help cover the mounting medical expenses and the cost of in-home care. With gratitude, Sarah
In October 2020, our dear friend Matt Carter was diagnosed with cancer. Since the diagnosis, he has had radiation, numerous rounds of chemotherapy, and surgeries to valiantly fight the cancer. His wife (and my long-time friend) Kristin and his daughter, Ainsley (12) have fought the battle with him. It seemed to be something they could manage until things took a turn for the worse in May 2023. Matt was having trouble with his vision and getting bad headaches, and it was discovered that he had a tumor behind his eye. He had surgery to remove that tumor, but only a couple months later, a new one appeared and has grown in its place. In recent months, the cancer has become more aggressive and has now metastasized throughout his body, including to his bones and other organs. One day in September, he looked jaundiced and felt weak, and when he was taken to the hospital, doctors found that his liver is failing. At this point, the prognosis is grim; the difficult decision has been made to move him to hospice care at his home.
Obviously, this news has been devastating for his family. In addition to the stress and hardship of Matt's journey, the family is having to rethink Ainsley’s university future. Matt has had a great career at ASU, and the plan has long been to have Ainsley attend ASU where she would benefit from greatly reduced costs. Now that is much more uncertain, so we have set this up to build Ainsley’s college fund. On behalf of this beautiful family, I am asking for your help if you can. All proceeds will go to Matt’s medical expenses and Ainsley’s college fund.
