Matt Carr battles his brain tumor.

Donation protected
Early in the morning on Sunday March 28th,
2021 I was awoken by what I thought was
our cat hitting my leg. Boy was I wrong, it
was in fact my 40 year old husband Matt
Carr, having a full on seizure.
I'd like to say I stayed cool & calm & knew
just what to do but nothing could be farther
from the truth. It took me a good minute to
realize that just because his eyes were
open & he looked like he wanted to say
something, he just wasn't there. Once I
realized this I immediately dialed 911. Now
remember that cool & calm thing...yeah I
couldn't even get my address right for the
dispatcher to get people here. If it was
lucky or unlucky just then Hayden came in
& said mom that's not the right address!!
It's XXXXXX Kingdon. I slightly snapped,
"thank you & get back in your room." I
know I owe him a therapy session or two
for that one. I was then instructed to get
Matt on his side which took a good 3-4 pulls
but got it done.
The police officer showed up first then all
the EMT's, once they all arrived our
bedroom filled up quickly so I said I had to
check the kids & did just that.
I found Hayden pacing & Keely curled up on
her bed like the little foxes she loves so
much. Got them settled down & Hayden
asked if they could watch SpongeBob...hell
ya kid do it up!
Just about that time the head EMT came
out & said they had him stable but he was
refusing transport. Now when I say I
whipped my head around so fast, it made
the EMT jump a little. I asked for a repeat
on the question & yup, Matt Carr, who is a
licensed EMT who just had a full blown
seizure was trying to not go in the
ambulance so we could save the ridiculous
amount it costs to get to the hospital.
It didn't hit me until just now how sad that
really is. Well then again he did have to cut
his time on the ambulance to become a
postal worker so we could make ends
meet.
Anyway, back to that day.... I said stay right
there he will be with you in one minute!
Went straight to the bedroom, looked at
Matt in the face & said get on the cot....I
don't know what that was but it scared the
shit outta me & we need to figure it out. All
he said was "ok, I gotta go to the bathroom
first."
Well alright mister lets get you to the potty!
There was shuffling, the cot was in the
living room because the hallway is tiny. He
came out, got on the cot & off they went to
find the answers. & OH boy did they ever
find some answers.
I had called Matt's parents at some point &
they showed up about 15 minutes after the
ambulance left. We got the kids packed up
& off they went. I changed & headed off to
see what was happening at the hospital.
I got there & got into ER with no
problems....walked into the room & not a
total heart sinking moment but damn was it
close.
Matt had a migraine & was very stiff from
the convulsions. He already had the quick
scans they did in the ER & the Dr was on
their way to explain everything.
The Dr came in & began to explain Matt has
a 2 cm (Tumor) Meningioma that is located
in between his eyes on the lower side. It is
pushing into the brain which is better than
it burrowing out of it & it finally reached
the point of touching the brain which sent
out distress signals that produced swelling
that then produced the seizure.
Now they needed more detailed scans so
the Dr's could make a plan for removal. He
stayed in the hospital Sunday, Monday &
got to come home 1/2 way thru Tuesday.
We met both surgeons that will be removing
the tumor & they let us know that they will
be going through his nose for removal.
There will be a 5-8 day hospital stay with
6-8 weeks off work & an additional 6
months with no driving. (Which means our
only steady income isn't able to happen)
Surgery is this Thursday April 15th at
5:30am.
Matt has had a migraine, little apatite &
vision changes since the seizure & has
been resting with his parents while I keep
the kids going here in Mattawan.
Any assistance, prayers, or good ju-ju you
can offer will be greatly appreciated by our
family. The medical bills will be
overwhelming, not to mention day to day
expenses.
