Matt Blanchard – Here we go again!

Donation protected
If you know Matt Blanchard, you most likely can’t help but love him.  Whether you have known him for years or for just a short time, I’m sure he’s made you smile more times than you can count. I believe I can speak for all of us when I say that Matt’s larger-than-life personality has, in one way or another, affected our lives for the better. Now it’s time for us all to send some positivity back his way.

On February 12, 2021, Matt was in a serious car accident, leaving him in need of extensive medical care.  Matt was driving to Mesquite Nevada on I-15 and a car driving from the opposite direction crossed the median and hit him head-on.  The driver that hit him tragically died at the scene and Matt was life-flighted (for the 2nd time in his life) to St. George Regional Hospital.  Thankfully, he does not have life-threatening injuries, but he burst his L4 vertebrae paralyzing him for the second time.  He also broke his fibula and tibia in his left leg and crushed more than half of the bones in both feet. He has undergone two successful surgeries so far, but doctors are anticipating more. Unfortunately, these new injuries present new challenges. With both his legs seriously injured and the burst of his L4, it is unknown to what kind of movement he's going to regain. Matt will undergo extensive therapy to hopefully reclaim the movement he'd had before this accident.

If you are new here, we want to give you a little background on Matt.  In 2006, Matt was involved in a roll-over car crash on I-15 that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Matt was a self-employed electrician with three young children and a stay-at-home wife.  After the accident, with the support of his wife Natalie and his children (Jayden, Brooklynn, & Brenden), he maintained a positive outlook on life and dedicated himself daily to therapy with the goal of walking again. Matt challenged the doctor’s prognosis of never being able to walk again and with his determination and hard work he was able to walk short distances with single-point canes.

Matt is the kind of person who always puts other's needs first and sees serving others as a way of life.  Matt has dedicated his life to serving and supporting patients with brain and spinal cord injuries as a Physical Therapy aide at St. George Regional Hospital, where he is now a patient. In addition to teaching Anatomy lab and Dixie State University, Electrical at DTAC, Matt has also has dedicated countless hours as a motivational speaker.  He speaks at schools, churches, and seminars, motivating people to help them overcome any challenge life throws at them. Matt is a hardworking father of an amazing family.  Matt leads by example by living his motto: Dig in, dig deep and get it done.

After Matt's first accident 15 years ago, he and his family were surrounded by love, support, and prayers. So many of you participated in charity events and made financial donations on their behalf. Matt and Natalie are forever grateful for your support.  None of us could have ever imagined this happening again.

Asking for help again is not easy, but at this time, we need everyone to come together again and spread the word to help Matt and his family overcome the new challenges and obstacles they will face. Many of you have asked, "How can we help?" The medical bills are starting to build and he will be out of work for weeks if not months. Also, we got an update that the driver who caused the accident did have a limited policy that only covers damage to the two vehicles she hit.  Unfortunately, the policy falls short to cover both vehicles. There is no bodily injury coverage which will leave Matt and Natalie to cover all additional expenses and time lost. In addition, Matt had only a collision insurance policy on his vehicle. Matt is in need of a new vehicle and also a lift to load his wheelchair due to the extensive injuries to both legs. In the crash, his wheelchair was destroyed as well and needs to be replaced.

We all have that friend, someone you know you can rely on, who is available at the drop of a hat.  Matt is kind, compassionate, and generous to a fault. Matt has been this to many of us, and for the lucky ones that have Matt in your life, it’s our time to repay the hours, days, or years that he’s dedicated to us. For those of you who have happened across this page without knowing Matt we’re hoping that you’ll take our word for it - he’s worth every thought, prayer, or a penny that you are willing and able to grace him with or donate. If you cannot donate, please share our story.  Every little bit helps. We will keep you updated as things evolve, and we all appreciate your love and support.
