Olá!!!

O meu nome é Matilde Mesquita, tenho 21 anos e estou a tentar angariar algum dinheiro para me ajudar a aceitar a oportunidade que me foi dada de ir estudar Teatro Musical na Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, no Reino Unido!

Se há uma coisa de que tenho a certeza na minha vida, é de que a quero passar nos palcos a dar vida a histórias e personagens.

Desde mesmo muito pequena que sempre estive ligada aos palcos. Seja na dança (em street dance), na música (com um trompete, canto ou, mais recentemente, na Desatuna, a tuna feminina da escola superior de artes e design), na ginástica, nas artes marciais, a apresentar eventos, e entre outros.

Em 2022 tive uma experiência de palco que mudou tudo: participar num musical, “FAME” da RockSchool Porto.

A partir desse momento nada foi o mesmo. Cada vez mais me interessei por esta arte e queria aprender tudo aquilo que conseguia sobre isso, o que me levou a, no ano letivo seguinte, entrar no curso de teatro musical da escola. Terminei o curso em 2024, validado pela DGERT e pela RSL, com grau de “mérito”. Participei em produções da RockSchool Porto como “Annie” 2024 e “Spring Awakening” 2023 que me permitiram aprender mais do que eu sequer podia imaginar.

Desde o final desses dias até hoje, tento investir sempre mais na minha formação nesta área: seja com aulas de dança jazz, aulas de canto, cursos de teatro, cursos intensivos, aulas de sapateado, workshops e tudo mais.

Este ano, FINALMENTE acabo uma licenciatura que foi um absoluto inferno de concluir, mas tinha de o fazer porque senão não teria permissão da minha família para poder estudar o que me faz mais feliz. Foram 3 anos muito duros, com muito pouca motivação e desgastantes.

Durante este último ano, atirei-me de cabeça para audições, trabalhando muito arduamente para conseguir o meu objetivo final. Pratiquei horas e horas sem conta, enviei currículos, fiz vídeos, fiz coreografias, decorei monólogos, refiz vídeos e refiz coreografias.

Finalmente, no início de Maio de 2026, recebi um e-mail que recompensou todo o meu esforço:

A Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts ofereceu-me um lugar para ingressar no curso de Certificate of Higher Education in Musical Theatre.

É uma oportunidade que não posso deixar passar, finalmente estou a um passo de todo o trabalho árduo que tive durante 3 anos.

Eu já tive vários trabalhos enquanto profissional de teatro musical em Portugal, que reverteram para poupanças para este momento. Tenho também trabalhado e tentado arranjar um part-time fixo para conseguir mais dinheiro para poder ir, pois é um peso muito grande para a minha família.

A propina de estudante internacional é de £15 620, que correspondem aproximadamente a 18 037 €. Para além disto, ainda tenho os custos de residência que rondam os £190 (aproximadamente 219 €) por semana. Para além disto, ainda tenho os custos de alimentação, visto de estudante, serviço de saúde, entre outros fatores que se adicionam a estas contas…

Estes valores são muito difíceis para a minha família, não só devido a diversos imprevistos monetários que ocorreram durante este ano, mas também pelo que os nossos rendimentos anuais não estão ao nível destes valores mesmo com todo o esforço que estamos a fazer.

Por isso, com muito carinho, peço a vossa ajuda com aquilo que poderem contribuir! Todos os cêntimos contam e todas as partilhas, para que este texto chegue ao máximo de pessoas possíveis, também!

Hello!!!

My name is Matilde Mesquita, I’m 21 years old and I’m trying to raise some money to help me take up the opportunity I’ve been given to study Musical Theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in the UK!

If there’s one thing I’m certain of in my life, it’s that I want to spend it on stage, bringing stories and characters to life.

Ever since I was very young, I’ve always been connected to the stage. Whether through dance (street dance), music (playing the trumpet, singing or, more recently, in Desatuna, the female student band at the School of Arts and Design), gymnastics, martial arts, hosting events, and more.

In 2022, I had a stage experience that changed everything: taking part in a musical, “FAME” by RockSchool Porto.

From that moment on, nothing was the same. I became increasingly interested in this art form and wanted to learn everything I could about it, which led me, in the following academic year, to enrol on the school’s musical theatre course. I completed the course in 2024, accredited by DGERT and RSL, with “merit”. I took part in RockSchool Porto productions such as “Annie” in 2024 and “Spring Awakening” in 2023, which allowed me to learn more than I could ever have imagined.

From the end of those days until now, I have always tried to invest more in my training in this field: whether through jazz dance classes, singing lessons, theatre courses, intensive courses, tap dancing classes, workshops and everything else.

This year, I’m FINALLY finishing a degree that was an absolute nightmare to complete, but I had to do it because otherwise my family wouldn’t have let me study what makes me happiest. It’s been three very tough years, with very little motivation and utterly draining.

Over the last year, I’ve thrown myself headlong into auditions, working incredibly hard to achieve my ultimate goal. I practised for countless hours, sent out CVs, made videos, created choreography, learnt monologues by heart, re-shot videos and reworked choreography.

Finally, in early May 2026, I received an email that rewarded all my effort:

Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts has offered me a place on the Certificate of Higher Education in Musical Theatre course.

It’s an opportunity I can’t let slip by; I’m finally just one step away from all the hard work I’ve put in over the last three years.

I’ve already had several jobs as a musical theatre professional in Portugal, which have gone towards saving up for this moment. I’ve also been working and trying to find a regular part-time job to earn more money so I can go, as it’s a huge financial burden on my family.

The tuition fee for international students is £15,620, which is approximately €18,037. On top of this, I also have accommodation costs of around £190 (approximately €219) per week. In addition, there are food costs, a student visa, healthcare, and other expenses that add to these bills…

These costs are very difficult for my family to manage, not only because of various financial setbacks that have occurred this year, but also because our annual income is not enough to cover these costs, even with all the effort we are putting in.

So, with all my heart, I ask for your help with whatever you can contribute! Every penny counts, and every share, so that this post reaches as many people as possible, too!
