Family targeted by arson

Beschermde donatie
On Tuesday, May 23, at approximately 3:30 am, emergency responders in Mathis, Texas were called to a large fire at Boo Boo's Drive Thru, a Muslim-owned convenience store.  The San Antonio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Antonio) has set up this GoFundMe account to assist Mumtaz Chaudary, owner of Boo Boo's, and his family, as they get back on their feet.

Video of the damage can be seen here.

Police in Mathis have confirmed to CAIR that this alleged arson attack may have been bias-motivated.

The store owner says he had previously reported threats to burn the business, including alleged statements such as, "You are Muslim, we are going to burn your store."

CAIR has called on local, state and federal authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime.  The organization recently released a report demonstrating a tremendous spike in anti-Muslim bias incidents.  (Read the report here: http://www.islamophobia.org/images/2017CivilRightsReport/2017-Empowerment-of-Fear-Final.pdf).

Mr. Chaudary's business lacked sufficient insurance, and because of the severe fire damage he currently has no means of income.  We are hoping to raise $10,000 to help him with living expenses until the store is re-built.
