Math For Social Justice: Racial Equality
Donation protected
I'm one class away from earning my Master's degree in Mathematics, Teaching Emphasis from University of Northern Colorado. My research focus in my program is on racial justice.
In my Master's Action Research Project (ARP), I tackle racial justice using mathematical tools in two different ways. First, develop a numerical index of racial equality that can be used to compare states using Microsoft Excel and JMP scripting. Second, I develop a unit for a college course for non-math majors whereby the students use Google Sheets to explore the connection between race and income by using US Census data for Tucson, Arizona. Attached below is my working project summary, submitted for review in Fall 2018:
11-29-18 Version of Racial Justice Project
I have one class left this Fall to complete my Masters degree, Linear Algebra. I plan to refine my racial justice project using the tools that I learn in this final class. Once complete, I will share the final version on social media and archive it in the ERIC educational research database.
I was hospitalized in February due to a manic/psychotic episode, and I have been on medical leave, and as a consequence did not get assigned any Summer or Fall classes to teach. I expect to return to work in Spring 2020. Therefore, I am seeking funding in the amount of $1715 to cover 3 units of tuition ($1665) plus transaction fees (~ $50).
Thank you for your support.
