Military Family in NICU

Mateo was born on the bathroom floor 15 weeks early (read the background story below) and will be in the NICU for at least 3 months, possibly more. As you can imagine, Mateo's proud parents are spending as much time as possible with him in the NICU.

Help ease the financial stress for Sarah and Matt so they can give Mateo the attention and care he needs.

  • Sarah is taking unpaid leave from work to be with Mateo at the hospital while bills are still coming in. They are also making multiple visits daily to the hospital.

  • Matt will have to travel 60 miles each way between Fort Drum and the hospital each day when his leave ends.

The Caldera family has a long road ahead of them.

  • Your donation will help an active duty family pay bills during unpaid time off, meals, and gas for daily trips to and from the hospital for the next 4 months.

Background:

On Saturday January 11th (around 0817 am) Baby Caldera made his epic world debut in a dramatic and legendary way. He is 15 weeks early but he decided he did not want to wait any longer. He was born at home in the comfort of their bathroom floor. Sarah and Matt were the doctors for the delivery. The fire and EMTs arrived about 10 mins after the glorious birth and took them to the hospital. Mateo (which is the name that Matt blurted out as he handed him off to the first responder) was received at the hospital by the 2 best NICU Doctors and is receiving the greatest care possible. He weighed 1lb and 7oz and is 13 inches long. He will be in the NICU for several months and has a very long, challenging and tough road ahead. Momma bear is one tough and incredible person. That's why she is our Wonder Woman.

Mateo will undergo surgery to close a valve in his heart that is supposed to close on it's own at birth. Mateo also had a possible small bleed on his brain.

Prayers, thoughts and good vibes are greatly appreciated and needed.
Mateo Declan McMahon Caldera born 1-11-2020

"Thank you to everyone that has reached out, brought us food, called, sat with us, prayed for us, shoveled snow and all the other amazing things! We are truly blessed with the greatest friends and family anyone could ever ask for!!"
