My brother Adam and his wife, Brianna Nunez, recently became parents to Mateo, their first born. A beautiful, happy baby boy who is 3 months old. On November 3rd their lives turned upside down when they called 911 because he was having trouble breathing. That same day they found out that he has a massive tumor covering 3/4th of his chest cavity. They are awaiting further testing to find out what type of cancer, but doctors think it is neuroblastoma (cancer that develops from immature nerve cells).
Mateo is currently receiving chemotherapy to reduce the size of the massive tumor as it has pushed his heart, lungs, and esophagus to the left side of his body. The doctors have told them to be ready for the long haul of treatment and potential surgery. This has all happened in the last week. Although they are devastated by these developments, they have incredible faith in Jesus and are ready to run this marathon. They have faith to see a Miracle for Mateo as thousands of people all around the world have come together in unity and prayer for his healing.
Many have asked how they can help Adam and Bree financially during this time. We would like to relieve them of financial pressures, as much as possible, so that they can focus on being there for little Mateo while he receives care at the hospital. Bree was on maternity leave and was planning to return to work prior to his diagnosis. After speaking with the social advocate at the hospital they know that the recovery process will be long, and that Bree would be the best caretaker for him. Thus, she will stay home with him even after he leaves the hospital. We would also like to help alleviate the financial burden of Mateo's medical bills.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, we will keep updating you along the way. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. We also thank you for all the prayers, love, and support.
