Hello, thank you so much for taking the time to read my baby's brother story.


Mateo was born on Nov. 17th 2020.  My family and I have been waiting impatiently for my baby brother's arrival. We have all been beyond excited, making so many plans and daydreaming about his future.  On the day of his arrival, things changed completely. After the delivery the doctor examined him and noticed something different about mateo. The doctor pulled my dad aside and told him that Mateo was born with Down Syndrome. It was shocking news. My dad was in shock because during the whole pregnancy no one had a clue that this would happen. These past few days have been chaotic, messy, heartbreaking but also full of love for our beloved Mateo.

Mateo is an adorable little baby and it breaks our hearts to see the condition that he is in. A few hours after being born he had to be rushed  in an ambulance to a bigger private hospital  in Guatemala because  he couldn't breathe and had to have some tests done with better equipment. 

Mateo was admitted to the neonatal Intensive Care Unit where now, at ONE DAY OLD is fighting  hard for his life.

 Cardiologist, Geneticist, Neurologist, and Pediatricians have been evaluating him and said that he needs more tests and needs to continue to be in the Intensive care Unit. As of now, they don't have an estimated time of how long he will have to be under emergency care. The doctor announced that he has a heart malformation and that his lungs are not working properly and he cannot breathe on his own without an oxygen machine. He is currently receiving antibiotics because he has an infection in his lungs and a pericardial infection.The doctors explained that Mateo might also need  surgery to correct a heart valve because it is not working properly. 

 My family and I are asking for  your help. The hospital costs are beyond expensive and anything would help. Please if you can donate and help my little brother receive all the treatment he needs,  we would appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts.

 It is a long road for Mateo, but we will be supporting him every step of the way. Kids with Down syndrome are beyond special/ kind . We all love him so much already.
