Mateo Sahyr Gavilanes Ordonez

Mi nombre es Mateo Sahyr Gavilanes, tengo 25 años, y desafortunadamente nací con los síndromes LENZ Y PIERRE ROBBIN que son desconocidos en mi país Ecuador, y muy poco conocidos en el exterior. Tengo ceguera total, atrofia de coanas, soplo al corazón, malformaciones en los maxilares, hidrocefalia, malformaciones en los genitales, desarrollo del crecimiento, paladar ojival, no puedo caminar uso prótesis, necesito sillas y andadores especiales para poderme parar. Además, hace pocos meses me detectaron un tumor en el cerebro, que me causa frecuentes dolores.

Mis padres han luchado desde mi nacimiento con varias intervenciones y tratamientos para mejorar mi calidad de vida. Sé que estos síndromes son progresivos, que tarde o temprano tengo que partir de esta vida, pero mientras exista medios para mejorar mi calidad de vida, luchare segundo a segundo, porque como dice mi nombre SAHYR es GANAS DE VIVIR, y eso es lo que tengo, ganas de vivir con todos mis seres queridos.

Tengo opciones de mejorar mi estado de salud que implica más estudios, tratamientos y rehabilitación periódica. Mis padres ya no cuentan con recursos y por eso necesitamos tu ayuda. Nadie me garantiza hasta cuando voy a vivir, solo deseo hacerlo a plenitud y rodeado de mis seres queridos.

My name is Mateo Sahyr Gavilanes Ordonez, I am 25 years old and a citizen of Ecuador. Unfortunately, I was born with LENZ and PIERRE ROBBIN syndromes. These are rarely observed around the world, and almost completely unknown in my country. Due to the syndromes, I have choanal atrophy, a heart murmur, hydrocephalus, jaw malformations, genital malformations, growth development, and a high-arched palate. I am completely blind, I need a wheelchair to move, and need special support equipment to stand up. In addition, I was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor that is causing me frequent pains.

My parents and I have fought these syndromes since the day I was born, including overcoming several surgeries and treatments to improve my quality of life. I understand these syndromes are progressive and that sooner or later I will no longer be around. However, as long as there are means to improve my quality of life, I will continue fighting. My middle name is Sahyr, which translates to “willingness to live”, and I want to live surrounded by my loved ones.

My doctors have given me options to improve my health and overall quality of life, but they require more medical exams, treatments, and periodic rehabilitation. My parents’ efforts have left them with minimal resources, which is why we need your help. I don’t know how much longer I will live, but I need your help to keep fighting so I can be with my family and loved ones as long as possible.
