On the afternoon of July 23rd, 2025, my sister, Keri, and my brother-in-law, Anthony, welcomed their second son, Mateo, into the world.

Sadly, Mateo was unable to breathe on his own, and he had to be taken to the NICU immediately after birth.

Around 2 a.m., he was brought in so that my sister could hold him for the first time.

She was only able to hold him for a few minutes because he needed to be taken straight away by ambulance to HUP.

He spent about a week there with around-the-clock monitoring and then was transferred to CHOP Philadelphia.

After numerous interventions and procedures, Mateo is still unable to breathe on his own.

Within the last week, he was transferred to CHOP KOP, where he will remain for the foreseeable future.

It has been 11 weeks now that my nephew has been in the NICU, and he still has an extremely long road ahead of him.

My sister and brother-in-law have spent every day by his side.

This has been absolutely devastating to my sister and her family.

I am starting this GoFundMe in hopes that we can alleviate the financial burden that comes with having a child in the NICU.
