Matches - Short Film

Donation protected
Hi, we are six university students from Bath Spa University in our final year and we are currently making our final short film before we graduate. We are therefore hoping to raise some funds so we can pay for our actors' travel costs, catering for the cast and crew as well as props and set design.

As this is our final film, we wanted to make it as good as we possibly could, meaning we decided to use the money required to make this happen. This film means a lot to us as we have all worked really hard to make something we are proud to show.

Logline:
Valerie reunites with a man from her past, but their reconciliation is fleeting as they face the dwindling matches and the inevitable goodbye.

Synopsis:
When a woman discovers an old matchbox during a power outage, she unlocks a doorway to her past, igniting a fleeting reunion with a lost love. As they navigate their shared history amidst the dwindling matches, they confront unresolved emotions and the inevitable passage of time. With the final match flickering, she must confront the truth and bid farewell, discovering the strength to embrace the future in the darkness of the last flame.

The directors statement:
Memories are precious to humanity. They are what creates connection between each and every one of us. Looking back at my life, there are distinct memories that I cherish and ones I wish I could forget. However, as I am entering adulthood, I am learning the value of these moments that make me who I am now. The true value lies in the connection these memories make with people and the story it tells about an individual. I wanted to make this story as a reminder to how important memories are in our lives and be able to capture the poignant beauty of fleeting moments.

The curiosity to share stories about life obstacles that we all go through as humans is my motivation to create stories that we can all sit together and emotionally connect, with no division of background, culture or anything that distracts us from remembering how we are all the same. Through the visual metaphor of a matchbox with themes of love, memory and acceptance, ‘Matches’ explores the crucial balance between holding on and letting go.

I hope you enjoy our film.
