Dear friends and family,

If you know her, you know she's a natural leader, a fighter for what's right; an advocate. She was the kid who would give her clothes and toys to other children in need and is the adult who, when connected with another being in need, doesn't question if she will help. She just does.

This daughter, cousin, future wife, and hopefully one day - mother, was just diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) that has spread to her auxiliary lymph node.

TBNC accounts for 10-20% of all breast cancer cases; the tumor is typically more aggressive with a faster growth rate and a higher risk of metastasis and recurrence. It's more common in patients with hereditary genetic mutations, and unfortunately, Mataya's paternal grandmother passed from breast cancer in her 30s.

So here I am, 'the mom,' humbly asking for any amount of assistance possible from those who may be fortunate enough to offer it to her.

Insurance will not provide her with the coverage she needs to meet the quality of care she deserves. I can't accept this and will fight on her behalf.

Please, please do not feel obligated if you are not in a situation to help right now. We understand and have been there.

We've learned so much within the past couple of weeks and truly appreciate all those who have reached out to provide words of encouragement and love. She wants to be treated the same and just 'muscle' through it but has also found that when she shares, she is part of a warm community of others who have also gone through this.

She has an incredible team at SCRC, Bedford Breast Center, and Cedars Sinai ready to do what they need to give her the fullest chance at her future.

Anything you contribute goes directly to pay related doctor, lab, and surgery bills - nothing more. I'll post updates on these costs as we go.
