Matale Solar Energy Campaign
Donation protected
Dearest friends and family,
For nearly 50 years our beloved Auntie Merle and extended families have supported a Catholic priest in the town of Masaka, Uganda, Fr. Francis Muwonge. Fr. Francis is a wonderful man, dedicated to both the spiritual and physical well-being of his people in the Matale parish. He is 80 plus years old and still going strong, recently celebrating his diamond jubilee !
Over the years we have all supported Fr. Francis, donating time and money in support of various small needs for his parish… a computer printer, money to repair a truck, a loudspeaker for outdoor services.
Recently he expressed a slightly larger need: more reliable electrical service in the church and residences. In Fr. Francis’ own words…
The need of our Parish is electric power. In fact we have it, but it goes off very often. Sometimes we spend a week or so without light. We need to have a Solar [power] system. Here we have much sun. The solar power does not go off. To have it fixed in our residence house, the Parish Church and the boys' quarters, including the stores and pit latrines, it would cost round $4000
We will be very happy if some day we get solar power to ensure having light all the time.
Jeanne and I are starting the Matale Solar Energy Campaign to raise money for this need. All funds raised will be delivered to Fr. Francis via a relative's US bank account.
Jeanne’s cousins (the Zimmermans) visited Matale in 2014, and this link to Marit Zimmerman’s blog about that trip speaks volumes about the people we are helping.
Here is a picture one of the residence houses

And here's a picture of the kids that live there

Let’s make this happen !
We'd love to deliver the funds in early April 2017. Feel free to forward this campaign link to others.
And thank you from the bottom of our hearts
