We are Lisa, Lukasz, Marcin, Pawel and Natalie, 4th-year Television students at Edinburgh Napier University. We are raising funds to produce our final project – a short film called Maszed.

THE PLOT:

After travelling the world as a fashion and portrait photographer, Tomasz returns to Edinburgh, where he spent his teenage years. Those memories are not happy. He was bullied extensively for being a Polish immigrant.

Now, twenty years later, he wants to be close to his ageing parents and opens a photography studio in town. To renovate the space, he hires an interior design company, where encounters Shelley - one of his former abusers, which seems like the perfect opportunity for revenge.

MASZED ASKES DIFFICULT QUESTIONS:

Are racist acts ever forgivable? Can people truly change? If they do change, can the perpetrators forgive themselves? What happens to the victims who carry the memory for decades?

WHY THIS FILM MATTERS:

In the current political climate in the UK and across the world, stories about racism are more relevant than ever.

Many films focus on perpetrators. Few explore the long-term psychological consequences for victims. We want to focus on the scars that remain invisible.

Bullying does not end in school corridors. It follows people into adulthood. Maszed explores what happens when the past walks back into the room.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT WILL FUND:

Our target is £760.

Equipment is covered by university access. Our cast and crew are working mostly unpaid.

● Transport between multiple Edinburgh locations

● Catering for cast and crew across six shoot days, including a Halloween party scene with 30 extras + crew

● Make-up artists

● Production design and costumes

● Festival submission fees

Every pound raised goes directly into what you will see on screen.

If we do not reach the full amount, we will personally cover the remaining costs. The film will be made regardless. Your support strengthens it and allows us to do this subject justice.
