On Sunday, March 24th, 2019, Masud Abdullah Tariq-Towe, loving (widowed) husband and father of two adult children, passed away at the age of 66.
Masud was born on September 17th, 1952, in New York, NY to Eleanore and Seville Towe. A true New Yorker, he attended high school in the Bronx and earned his Bachelors degree at Queens College. On August 7th 1987, he married Sherise Simmons.
He had a deep love for music, especially Jazz, with Miles Davis and John Coltrane being amongst his top favorite musicians. He shared that love for music with others through his weekend radio program on WHCR, titled "Gardens of Tranquility and Contemplation." He was also a traveler, scholar, and veteran of both the United States Army and Navy. He taught U.S. History, Social Studies, and Music at Alfred E. Smith High School, and later Harry S. Truman High School. He was a devout Muslim, deeply committed to Islam and heavily involved with the Muslim community. He was an Imam at Masjid Al-Farah, in addition to serving on the Spiritual advisory committee for Cordoba House, a community he belong to for over 30 years.
He was warm, humble and insightful, sharing his wisdom and teachings to those who came to him for understanding. He was a loving, caring, compassionate person to all who knew him.
Masud was preceded in death by his father, Seville, his mother Eleanore, and his wife, Sherise. He is survived by his two daughters Ayesha Brown and Fatima Diaz; sons-in-law Daniel Brown and Nicholas Diaz; his two brothers Marc and Anthony Towe; granddaughter Cherise Brown; grandsons Kayden Diaz, Asa and Daniel Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
