Some people leave behind memories. Christopher left behind a legacy.

As our family struggles to come to terms with this unimaginable loss, we have also learned of an unexpected financial hardship. Due to the structure of Christopher's military retirement plan and the benefits options that had been selected, there are no survivor benefits available to provide ongoing financial support for Brandie and their three young sons. After a lifetime of honorable service and sacrifice, this is a burden no family should have to face alone.

Our hearts are broken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved brother, Master Sergeant Christopher Maye—a devoted husband to Brandie, a proud father of three incredible young boys, a son, a brother, a gifted artist, and an American Airman who dedicated more than two decades of his life to serving our country. Christopher enlisted in the United States Air Force at 18 years old, answering a calling that would shape the rest of his life. He never sought recognition for his sacrifices. He simply believed in serving others. Today, the family and friends who loved him are left grieving the loss of a man whose strength, humor, compassion, and unwavering faith touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Christopher's military career was defined by courage, humility, and selfless service. Over more than 20 years, he deployed four times in support of our nation, during the Great War on Terrorism, in addition to countless Temporary Duty (TDY) assignments around the world. As an Air Traffic Controller and respected leader, Christopher carried tremendous responsibility throughout his career. During the 2021 evacuation of Kabul, Afghanistan, he was overseeing evacuation operations at Abbey Gate when a bombing claimed the lives of 13 American service members. While the world watched in horror, Christopher remained at his post, helping carry out one of the largest and most dangerous evacuation missions in modern military history. The weight of that day would stay with him, yet he continued to serve with the same quiet professionalism, courage, and commitment that defined his entire career.

Military life led Christopher, Brandie, and their three boys across the country and around the world, building homes and memories from coast to coast. No matter where they lived, Christopher's greatest source of pride was always his family. He was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and the kind of leader people naturally looked to for strength and guidance. His integrity, selflessness, courage, and faith will forever be remembered by those who served beside him and everyone blessed to know him.

Beyond the uniform was a man whose creativity and humor inspired everyone around him. Christopher was an exceptionally talented artist who had only recently begun sharing his work with the world. Those closest to him knew his artistic gift for years, and it was exciting to watch him finally embrace that passion and allow others to experience it. He also had an unmatched sense of humor. His quick-witted, hilarious, and deeply relatable videos on social media made people laugh because they were so authentically him. Whether he was creating art, making someone smile, mentoring fellow Airmen, or spending time with his boys, Christopher had a rare ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved.
