My name is Wendy Snow and I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer the day before Halloween of 2018.
Since then I have gone through chemo, a double mastectomy surgery, radiation, and more chemo. I finished my last bought with chemo and two hospitalizations due to the chemo in November 2019.
My family and I have been struggling with my diagnosis and the effects that chemo, surgery, and radiation has had on my body and mind. My family consists of myself , my husband and five children. We have a daughter age 10 and four sons, ages 10, 11, 22, and 28. We have had some amazing people rally around us, and shown us such love and support, that I don't think we would have made it this far with out them.
Plus, there have been people that are perfect strangers that have reached out to help my family during this difficult time. I have received more love and support from friends, new friends and strangers then I could have ever imagined. I feel so lucky to have such amazing people in my life and my families life.
Due to help from everyone, we were able to manage financially during my time out after my double mastectomy. Without that help, we would have had to sell our home to pay for the medial costs and our day to day living.
Unfortunately, my next step in my battle with cancer and recovery, consist of another surgery, which will hopefully be my last major step in my fight and process with the cancer recovery.
The surgery will put me out of commission for about 4 to 8 weeks. It depends on how well my body does with the surgery. I will be having whats called a DIEP Flap Reconstruction, which is were they take my own fat from parts of my body to rebuild my breasts. Due to the radiation that I received, I'm unable to get implants, so my only option is the DIEP Flap Reconstruction Surgery. The surgery itself can take anywhere from 5 to 8 hours, due to the micro surgery that has to be performed, and I will have to spend time in insensitive care along with a couple of days in the hospital before I can go home.
We have been able to manage financially since my recovery from my double mastectomy surgery, but with my upcoming reconstruction surgery putting me out of work for such a significant time again, we are in need of help again to be able to pay our bills.
We only need enough money to get through the two months that I will be recovering from my surgery. The original amount that was received of the $4000 was to help during my double mastectomy surgery and I'm unable to reset the amounts needed for my reconstruction surgery. I really hate to ask for help again, but we are in desperate need and we have no other family that can help us. We haven't been able to save money due to the amount of time that I have had to miss work, due to other hospitalizations and medical expenses.
My surgery has been scheduled for September 16th, 2019. It was pushed back from May/June due to the Coronavirus.
Also, on a more personal note, if anyone has gone through this type of cancer and is willing to correspond with me about their experience, I would be so grateful. Since my mastectomy surgery and finishing my treatments, I'm having problems trying to move forward with my life. As my oncologist put it so eloquently, that at this point, there are no other treatments that they can have me go through if my cancer comes back. I can go through trials, but there would be no guarantee that they would work. So, I guess I'm a little scared and not quite sure were to go from here. I'm trying to move forward with my life the best I can and still go after my goals that I had before I got cancer, but somehow they just don't seem as important as they did before.
I currently go every couple of months to get different scans to check for cancer, and every time they start to get close, I feel my self getting more and more anxious. So, if anyone has gone through this or knows of someone that has gone through this and can provide some advice on how they dealt with this, or are dealing with this type of situation, I would really appreciate any words of wisdom.
Thank you in advance from my whole heart, for any help those of you can provide.
