Fort McMurray EA needs our help!

Hello, my name is Veronica Wood, a resident of Fort McMurray, Alberta. I have created this fundraiser for my father-in-law Dave Wood.

Dave is deemed by pretty much everyone he meets as the nicest, most welcoming stalwart person you could meet. He's been a cherished employee of Fort McMurray Composite Highschool for over a decade as an Educational Assistant; if you have a student who graduated from Composite High in that period, there is a good chance they know Mr. Wood/ Woodie! His heart is always on his sleeve and he aims for everyone around him to feel loved no matter who they are, or, at least to make them laugh!

To get to the point:

In December 2021, his rental property's furnace went out while the tenants of that time were out of town. This caused the pipes to freeze, which in turn caused his kitchen, dining room and bathroom floors to be ruined.

Dave was falsely advised to pursue the repairs as the cost would be covered by insurance. The construction company working on the trailer was advised the same.

After the work was done Dave's insurance informed him that he was not covered. The company put a lien on his property assuring him that nothing usually comes from this. Initially, the construction company appeared to be supportive and offered to take action against the insurance company's false counsel.

Forward 1 year and 3 days after Christmas, Dave received a letter stating that he is instead being sued by the construction company and will need to pay for all proceedings and the company's lawyer fees. There was no warning or opportunity for a payment plan to be made to cover the cost.

We all know how hard the Pandemic has been on everyone. No one in our family believed things could become harder, but they did for Dave when he received that letter. The amount owed to the company and for lawyer fees is an amount too high for the average working man, and we are hoping for a miracle.

I am seeking any support we can find to help him pay this off with minimal stress.

He is an exceptional human being and he needs help. He would never ask for it himself, yet he doesn't hesitate to go out of his way for anyone, family and non-family alike.
