Preserving Massachusetts' gravestone artworks

Thank you for your interest in this unique far-reaching project.

It really began when I used to ride a motorcycle around New England. After an hour or so in the saddle, I would take a break, often in graveyards for their peacefulness. Over time, my awareness of these historic and artistic monuments' inevitable disintegration inspired me to come up with an achievable solution.

My primary intention is to preserve photographic source materials for the future (which I define as 100 years from now and beyond). At that point, due to unstoppable environmental and temporal effects, these high-resolution images will soon be all that remains of these unique, beautiful, and irreplaceable artful manifestations of our shared history.

As of May 2021, I have already acquired over 31,000 images from 100+ cemeteries. I plan to double that inventory during 2021.

As this project continues forward despite encountering obstacles further reinforces the many motivations that spawned this obsession (that are elaborated upon in the presentations). I appreciate whenever I meet and discuss the project, people "get it" in a flash.
