I'm sharing this because these are young people who give me hope every day. I took Mason in at 14 as my own son and have been mentoring and helping him become a responsible young man. Mason has never complained about the life he was given. Because his mother was addicted to Heroin when he was born, he was lucky to survive. His brave older sister Melyssa, called CPS when they were young which unfortunately had them separated but safely placed them in Foster care until his father gained custody again. Melyssa is finishing her Respiratory Therapy education to help support her young family with her husband, but still looks out for her little brother.

Mason is a very positive and kind kid and helps others any chance he gets. He is now 22 and is learning a trade that will keep him employed for life. He is loved at work and they often fight over who gets to work with him, because of his work ethic. It took me a few reminders to get him to sign up for his employer's health care benefits, but thankfully he did. Although his employer has said his job will be there for him when he is healed, the physical nature of his work means an extended recovery period before he will be a able to return. It's very hard to watch my "son" in physical pain, but harder to see him tear up worrying about the medical estimates they keep bringing him. Because he is so responsible, he is more concerned about all the bills and the inability to pay his monthly expenses, than healing. He recently financed his first "big boy" truck, which was in the shop and the only reason he was on the motorcycle.
This is Melyssa's message to help her brother.
Hello friends and family of Mason this is Melyssa his sister. I am setting up this page to raise money to help Mason with his finacial and medical needs once he is released from the hospital.
The night of November 8th, on his way home from work, something on Mason's motorcycle broke and caused him to lose control. He slid with his bike about 30-40 feet narrowly missing a telephone poll and slammed into a medal electric box on the side of the road.
While we are all beyond thankful that Mason survived he does have some extensive injuries and will be out of work for a few months, if not longer.
He has a compound fracture of his tibia shaft on his right leg that compromised the artery and he almost lost it. Luckily doctors were able to regain a pulse in it and he had to have surgery. They placed a medal rod through the length of the bone and secured it with screws.
He also has a fractured pelvis and broken toes on his left foot. X-rays were done but it looks like he will not need surgery on his pelvis or toe. Luckily there were no internal or brain injuries!
Mason has been in an ecrutiating amount of pain and the medical staff had a tough time finding the right medication regimen that would work but luckily they have finally. Last night he was able to get a bit of rest mostly sedated but rest is rest. His close family and friends have not left his side and we thank you all for your love and support!
We are asking for any donation to help him stay on top of bills such as his car payment and the day to day expenses. As well all know adulthood doesn't go away or pause for anyone. He is also going to have extensive medical bills that insurance won't cover. Any and all help is so greatly appreciated and I will keep you all updated on his progress.
You all can send messages here and I will be more than happy to share them with him but we ask for privacy while he is in the hospital at this time to promote healing and relaxation. Once he is out of the ICU I am sure he will be more than happy to see each and every one of you!
Thank you again so much!
