Mason the Wilms Warrior

Hi my name is Kristine and I’m raising funds for our amazing son Mason.  Mason is a the most kind, smart, and overall loving little boy you will ever meet! He is 4 years old and has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Nephroblastoma.  A pediatric cancer otherwise known as a Wilms Tumor, a rare cancerous tumor on the kidney that affects 1 in 30,000 kids.

Masons Story:

On May 8th 2021 Mason was feeling very lethargic and didn't want to get out of bed all day. He slept for most of the day which is not like him one bit! He's usually bouncing off the walls and playing with his neighborhood buddies. He spiked a fever so my Spidey senses were up and we decided it would be a good idea to take him to the After Hours Pediatric Doctor that Saturday evening thinking that it was probably just a tummy bug.

After some evaluations from Dr. Lou, she told us to go directly to the ER as she thought he had an appendicitis and wanted us to have a full evaluation and ultrasound of which she couldn't give at the After Hours office.  So we did just that.  After about 3 hours of scans, tests and lots of poking & prodding the ER doctor came in to give me the news. They had found a mass on his kidney, it was cancerous and we would be admitted immediately to the hospital. My heart sank and my body floated away, my little baby boy was just diagnosed with cancer.

That night was a rush of emotions, there was no sleep, lots of tears, research, and prayers. The next day was mothers day, and it was one that I will never in my life forget. We spoke with the Oncology team as well as the surgeon. He was going to have to have surgery to remove the 5 inch tumor and remove the kidney that the tumor had taken over. A treatment plan was then put in place. He would receive Chemotherapy over the course of the next 20 weeks.

Since then, Mason has been undergoing Chemotherapy for the past 14 weeks after having immediate surgery to have the cancerous tumor removed as well as his left kidney. This news has devastated all of us, and all of our focus has been on getting him better.  Please help this sweet boy and our family through this difficult and painful time.  Every little bit helps and can be put towards his medical bills. We love you forever Mason, keep staying strong we are constantly praying for your recovery!

In the US, pediatric cancer research remains underfunded. The National Cancer Institute’s budget of $5 billion allocates only 4% to childhood cancer research. With more funding, treatments could evolve and more children could be saved.
