Masks for Patrick Henry School of Science & Arts
Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts is a very special place. A public school in Richmond, Virginia, PHSSA is Virginia’s first charter elementary school. It serves approximately 350 students from all over the city of Richmond with the mission to cultivate students’ maximum growth and develop stewardship through a premier environmental and arts education.
What does this look like on the ground? It looks like teachers taking our kids outside in beautiful Forest Hill park where they integrate lessons creekside and riverside--such a gift in public education. The teachers, staff, and administration here are amazing.
After a year and a half of virtual learning, PHSSA returned to in-person classes in early August, just as Delta was ramping up in our region. During the past month, more than half the classes at PHSSA have been in and out of quarantine. This means teachers are moving all that they're doing for these students to an online format and back. Through it all, through this entire pandemic, these teachers have been working tirelessly to help our children live semi-normal, healthy, and enriched lives.
We want our teachers and staff to have peace of mind as they work to educate our children and keep them safe. The school and entire district are working hard on layering mitigation strategies, but some teachers have expressed a desire for KN95 masks for another layer of protection. We'd like to take the burden of cost and labor away from our Board of Directors who are working so hard right now. So here we are!
From Project N95, we can bulk order 3500 masks for approximately $2000. That's 2500 quality KN95s and 1000 ASTM level 3 surgical masks. We have 30-40 teachers, staff, and administration. 3500 masks would provide about a mask a day from now until April.
Can you help us make this happen for our teachers, children, and community? If we exceed our goal, we'll provide that money to the board and administration. Thank you so much.
