Masks for the Frontline
Donation protected
The purpose of this campaign is to provide healthcare workers on Maui with face masks to protect themselves against Covid19 while they serve our community.
As I was watching what has been going on throughout the world with this pandemic, I knew I wanted to do more for our community than simply staying home and practicing social distancing. I noticed the need for masks for our healthcare workers and I wanted to find a way to help reduce the shortage. I feel strongly about this because my mom was a nurse for twenty years at Maui Memorial Medical center and I have family and friends currently serving in the healthcare field.
I thought that my business, Naka's Drapery, could help by producing reusable masks, but after a few days of experimenting I realized that we weren’t going to be able produce masks quickly and efficiently enough to make an impact. My sister told me about a go fund me campaign that she started in her community in California and gave me information to start my own campaign on Maui, and I knew this would be a more effective approach.
Fortunately, the situation on Maui isn't as bad as other places but because prices for masks were going up rapidly, I had to act quickly. I paid for masks up front and will be donating at least 6,000 kn95 masks and 3,000 surgical masks. These masks won't be for sale and money raised through this campaign will go directly towards covering the cost of the masks. Any additional funds will be donated towards other Covid19 relief efforts.
If you currently have the means, please consider donating to ensure that our healthcare workers have the supplies they need to stay safe as they continue to care for our community.
Sincerely,
Bobby Nakamura
