I worked with Dodd Loomis while I worked on "Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark" on Broadway. If any of you know Dodd personally, you wouldn't be surprised he jumped in to help produce and manage the building of the makeshift hospital at the New Orleans Convention centre. I saw the post on Facebook and said to myself, "of course Dodd's doing that. " No surprise as I know him to have a big heart and a penchant for helping people.
After speaking to Dodd on the phone, I was shocked to find out HALF the staff are coming into work with no PPE. I assumed looking at the photos, that at they'd at least have some kind of masks or gloves. Nope. Doctors, nurses, admin, staff are still coming in today and everyday to help people who are sick with Covid-19, without knowing when PPE will be available. One of the pictures he posted was of a staff member who had been using his wife's bra cup as a mask. The situation is dire and desperate. And even though we've heard of this so much in the news, it doesn't make this any less heartbreaking. I am in awe of their bravery.
This is still my birthday week. And for a belated birthday wish, I'm asking anyone who is able, to donate or share this link with someone who can help. My goal is to raise $5000 (or more) to buy N95, KN95 masks and surgical masks. I will have the masks sent to Dodd and he has agreed to be their steward and make sure they get to the folks who need it! Any and every dollar donated will be spent towards buying masks for these heroes. Now is your chance to be a hero. Remember even if you can't donate, you've done your part just by reading and sharing. Thank you, God bless and stay safe!
