Uncle Sam Needs You, Again!
TLDR:
Front-line US personnel need protective gear now! Help us buy & deliver it within days.
There is not enough personal protective equipment (PPE) to face the COVID-19 crisis. Without PPE, key personnel will be infected. Before symptoms appear, they will be unknowing super-spreaders working with the public in hospital, police and fire settings.
Right here & now, you can donate to buy masks for quick/immediate delivery. These items are already in the USA, or can be sent Air Mail. They may cost 2-3 times what they would normally, but our heroes need them NOW.
THE DETAILS:
In the WWII years, Americans rallied to give our soldiers and sailors everything they needed to win the war. We sacrificed, we rationed, & our women took factory jobs for the first time in history. All to support the war effort.
The COVID-19 crisis is a war too. Americans must rally again. This time to help our first responders and medical workers to save US, while we all fight to defeat the virus.
The (first?) peak of the coronavirus is rushing at us like a freight train. Our hospitals are starting to be stressed by the number and seriousness of COVID cases. By mid-April it will be a full blown crisis in multiple parts of the country.
Without PPE, key personnel will become unknowing super-spreaders even while working with the public in hospital, police and fire settings. Once symptoms appear, these heroes will have to self-isolate for 2-3 weeks, exactly when they are most needed. And that is their best-case scenario.
This is a pending “disaster within a disaster” that must be prevented. We owe it to these heroes to provide them with appropriate gear and supplies.

WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT:
The Crowdsourced COVID Response project is intentionally nimble. We are agile because our advisors are the ones fighting the virus this second. They know what we need.
Our Advisory Team is working in ICUs etc. right now, and is telling us not just what is missing today, but what will be missing in a few days when we expect to have PPE ready to deliver.
NO OTHER GROUP is designed from the start to be as responsive to the ever-shifting needs of our crisis responders than this project.
HOW THE MONEY WILL WORK:
We’re really just pooling donations of PPE and money to buy supplies, to make it possible for individuals to make more impact than they would donating on their own. We are not a 501(c)3. The IRS will likely consider your donation as a gift, not as something tax deductible. We have a separate bank account to use to hold donations and pay for supplies. We’ll transparently post accounting for all of this on the website.
EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DONATION PUTS IN THE HANDS OF FIRST RESPONDERS AND FRONTLINE MEDICAL STAFF:
We’ll be selecting specific PPE based on the recommendations of our advisory team THE SAME DAY we are spending donations. Currently our advisors agree with the GetUsPPE.org recommendations. We reserve the right to be super agile and to turn on a dime where needed. But our current plan has this $2500 going to high-impact / low-supply items like surgical masks, face shields, protective goggles, gloves & wipes.
Pricing changes daily. With this initial campaign we estimate that we might be able to buy 1000 N95 masks, or ~4000 surgical masks. These are examples. We’ll post campaign updates once we’ve made the specific purchases our advisors wanted funded by this exact campaign. That is part of our transparency process for every campaign until this crisis ends.
WHAT ARE OUR SOURCES?
We’re applying good old American ingenuity to the PPE problem. Sure, we’ll source from China & India, by air and sea. But we’ll also source creatively here in the USA, finding supplies in neglected/shuttered warehouses, and acquiring gear from partner groups. Where appropriate, we may even supply DIY masks and gear acquired from partner groups. Please understand that we have to be careful with our sources. In the end, think of us as an emergency fundraising and distribution hub. Researching, sourcing, inquiring, processing orders, pick up & delivery to hospitals currently in need the day we are delivering. The money you’re donating is the cash we’ll use to buy PPE inventory.
